A family-friendly college town, Denton hosts the University of North Texas, Texas Women’s University, and North Central Texas College. Young residents thrive in the arts and music scene while families enjoy plenty of parks and festivals, all of which culminate in Courthouse Square.

The downtown square is bustling with shops, eateries, entertainment venues and events. Visitors can shop, relax at a spa, eat to their hearts content and catch a live show or browse a gallery. In addition to the Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum, the town offers an African American Museum, a Firefighters’ Museum, the Bayless-Selby House Museum and Hangar 10 Museum. The universities host the majority of the dozen art galleries and walking tours are available.

Music entertainment ranges from Concerts on the Square and Twilight Tunes to the annual Arts & Jazz Festival in April. Also check out Denton Community Theatre, Dan’s Silverleaf, and the Center for Visual Arts for more local talent. These venues host film, storytelling, flower, holiday and blues festivals annually, plus concerts, tastings and art shows.

Denton’s also home to Horse Country with a number of local horse farms where visitors can tour and ride. Additional local tours include live music pub crawls, historic walking tours, a public art tour, and a sampling tour that combines museums, shopping and restaurants. Born & bred Dentonite. I've moved all over the Dallas area, only to move back :)

When I want to have a picnic, I have to decide between 5 really great spots. When I want to have a beer, I have to decide between 25 spots. Same goes for music, restaurants, bike shops, and coffee. Denton has so much to do, all the time

Denton truly does have something for everyone. From 35Denton to Arts and Jazz Fest Denton is an incredible small town. I went to college here, got married here, bought my first home here, and gave birth to my first child here!

The best of our agricultural roots & city life, Denton competively stands up as a music powerhouse to such places as Austin, Seattle, Nashville & Atlanta. A double college town (not including a technical college & community college) Denton has the intimacy of a small town with an active square & locally owned thriving businesses mixed with the music nightlife of a much grander scaled city. Your nerds, hipsters, vegans mix cordially & easily with your farmers, businessmen & lawyers. Both the city hall & county courthouse hum with local involvement & grassroots efforts to keep this growing town loved & cozy. Such festivals as 35 North, Arts & Jazz, the Texas Storyteller, Wassail Fest have laid claim of Denton not to menton the dozen or so more. Denton is the first place I've ever lived that strikes a balance of classy, classic & cool without losing the real people in the background.

I was born and raised in Denton, but when I walk around the historic downtown area, I feel like I am on vacation. There are many distinctive restaurants, unique shops, museums, theatre, music venues, and the historic courthouse square downtown to provide fun things to do and see any day of the week. Adding to the atmosphere in the evenings are the lighted trees on the square and the sounds of music that emanates from various venues around or impromptu performances on the square. There are also many events going on throughout the year: the Thin Line Film Festival, 35 Denton Music Festival, Twilight Tunes Concert Series, Art & Jazz Festival, Community Market, First Fridays, Dog Days, the Arts Antiques & Autos Extravaganza, and the Holiday Tree Lighting and Wassail Fest. The two universities in Denton add to the music, art, and the eclectic mix of people that can be found throughout the city. I am so happy to live in Denton and to own a business in the historic downtown. Denton also has some of the friendliest people around, many of whom I meet daily in my shop and in places around the square. But since we can only vote in one category, I am voting on Most Fun!
