Description

This college town in the Flint Hills is the home of Kansas State University, founded as the Kansas Agricultural College in 1863. The city's historic homes and structures include Goodnow House, an idiosyncratic home owned by educator Isaac Goodnow, Wolf House, a stone house originally built in 1868, and the 1916 pioneer log cabin in City Park. You can also visit Sunset Zoo which features over 300 animals in African and North American settings. Southwest of the city, the Konza Prairie, a living research center of native tallgrass owned by the Nature Conservancy, offers hiking trails of three, five, and six miles. The fishing is excellent at Tuttle Creek Lake to the north.

With the Flint Hills Discovery Center, the jazzy zoo, good food, very friendly folks, a great golf course and the playground of the beautiful Flint Hills with its lakes, rivers, and scenic drives, don't miss Manhattan!

Manhattan is a classic college town full of Midwest charm, congeniality and hospitality, especially if you're wearing Purple. Visitors can expect being smiled at and to receive friendly service at the many great restaurants and attractions. Even visitors wearing an opposing school's colors will to be welcomed at a tailgate to enjoy some food and a frosty beverage outside Bill Snyder Family Stadium... except maybe for those wearing red and blue. :-) Come enjoy the Little Apple; you'll love our spot on the Flint Hills!

I'm a Manhattan native and am proud of it! After graduating from K-State, my husband & I have made the CHOICE to stay in this great community. The friendliness, sense of community, great people, and variety of things to do keeps us around. We couldn't ask for a better economy to grow professionally and a great place to start a family. If asked to choose one great thing about this community - it would be it's connection to the outdoors and the beauty of the flint hillls. I can't get enough! Within minutes you can be transported from the buzz of a collegiate campus to the serenity of the Konza prairie or the adventure of Sunset Zoo!
