- Worst town ever. No public transportation, and no sidewalks. You can't get anywhere unless you have a car. Starkville is completely isolated in the middle of nowhere, 1.5 hours from the slightest hint of civilization (Tuscaloosa). Everyone I know here has to order half of their home goods and groceries from Amazon.com because Walmart, Kroger, Piggly Wiggly and a handful of mom and pop shops are the only places to shop in this town. The food is AWFUL -- not only taste-wise, but I've been served moldy food in Starkville, and the wait staff is equally inexperienced/terrible. Also, don't bother looking for a job here unless you have connections, because credentials don't get you anywhere here, it's who you know. People are outwardly very friendly, but behind closed doors many of them are very racist. I have nothing good to say about this poor excuse of a town. For anyone who wants to accuse me of hating on Starkville, I'm not... I wanted to love this town, but there's little to love. It's an awful place.

- I went to graduate school there (graduated three years ago) and, boy, is it an awful place! It is completely isolated, the people are not friendly, and the food is horrible. Plus anything that is public (i.e. parks, roads, buildings, etc...) is in horrible condition. I hear the town is getting a little better, but when I was there, it seemed like they weren't willing to invest in any kind of infrastructure. About half of the students at the university are spoiled, entitled, racist brats and most of them were not prepared at all for college. The sports fans there are probably the most obnoxious I've ever been around (and I've been to games at almost all of the SEC schools) and its pathetic how defensive they are about their teams, which are mediocre at best. I'm not an Ole Miss fan either. I've visited Oxford and I liked the campus and town more than Starkville, but I hear that its not much better. I am so glad I got out of that state and that town!

Why is this place even in the running? It is not an inviting, exciting nor interesting place at all. The restaurants are fair to midland at best. Destination site? - only if you have car trouble and can't get on down the road.
Save your money and time and visit Pelahatchie instead. - on April 30, 2012
