My family and I have been going at Christmas for over 10 years. You can't beat the superb location or the friendly owners. You have the option of just hanging out and eating meals by the ocean perpared on the grill or in your apartment or going to nearby restaurants. The Hollywood Broadwalk is really close by and it's prime jogging/cycling territory. I'd rather stay at the Manta Ray than at some famcy generic highrise with elevators, a "scene" and fancy restaurants. Going to Forida is about the beach and the outdoors and there are precious few places left like the Manta Ray.
