I have been a special education teacher in Southern New Jersey for thirteen years. I love my job, my school and my students! I have an incredible group of kids in my class.
I have done a minimal amount of travel over the years. However, I have made it my goal to encourage and motivate other teachers and students to take both short and extended field trips to explore the history, culture and ecosystems of the USA. I believe there is no better way to learn than through experience. There are so many opportunities for experiential learning in our own small towns and cities.
Please take a moment to vote for us to be a Best of the Road team for 2012! We appreciate your support and look forward to experiencing small town America with you!
Taking a trip with students to the beach.
I arranged a field trip for some of my students to go to a beach and participate in an ecology walk. As we were approaching the beach, they began revealing one by one that they had never been to a beach and had not seen the ocean ever before. It was awesome to watch their reaction!
Breaking down in a rental car in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
It is impossible to get a replacement rental car on a Sunday afternoon. Luckily, we made friends with a lovely woman who's husband worked on the nearby Navy base. With his help, she secured us a rental car from the company that supplied cars to many of the Navy guys. She was the best!
Baby wipes! They are good for everything.
